FOCUS: “You teach what you know, but you reproduce what you are.” -Howard Hendricks
CHALLENGE: What / who are you becoming?
The Sunday sermon series has focused on Spiritual Practices. This topic hopefully prompts us to question, “what or who am I becoming?” We can answer this question many times by examining the things, habits, attitudes, et cetera we find ourselves practicing each day. Being aware of our practices can help us practice the right things (i.e. spiritual practices such as prayer, Bible study, etc.) that lead towards a changed life.
? What spiritual practices are you currently engaged in on a very consistent basis?
? What practices do you find you struggle with now?
? Identify at least one area or activity you could cut time from in order to intentionally and specifically focus on a spiritual practice.
Example: cut the TV off earlier to focus and engage God in prayer
The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence
About 100 pages long, this small book is a compilation of conversations with and letters by Brother Lawrence, a 17th century monk. The book details the practices of a humble man who lived like God was with him in the normal everyday tasks of life. The Practice of the Presence of God will hopefully challenge you to become more aware of God’s presence with you during each moment.
